Hatters Cruise Past Upstate on Senior Day

DeLAND—Stetson closed out the regular season on a high note with a 6-1 win against Atlantic Sun Conference foe USC Upstate, Saturday on Senior Day at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
Prior to the match the Hatters said goodbye to seniors Isabella Fernandez, Brittany Hill and Maja Salibasic as they played their final home contest.
 
The Hatters (6-13 overall, 3-3 ASUN) won the doubles point and five of six singles matches against the Spartans, and have now won three of their last four matches as a team.
 
Stetson opened play against the Spartans by winning the doubles point. The No. 3 team of Fernandez and Danielle Peele clinched the point with a 7-6 win.
 
Sofia Ferding was the first Hatter on the board in singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Alexe Viaud followed soon after with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6.
 
Leading 3-0, the Hatters clinched the match when Arijana Korac earned a 6-3, 4-0 (ret.) win at No. 1.
 
Lucie Renault was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 3, and Peele closed out Stetson's strong night with a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-2) victory.
 
Up next for Stetson is the ASUN Tournament, April 21-23 in Fort Myers.
