Bucknell Outlasts Hatters in Four Sets

Shelby Connors hits .462 for the match

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson got off to a quick start against Bucknell, but the Bison prevailed in the long run earning a 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18) victory over the Hatters Sunday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Stetson (0-6) hit a season-high .204, while Bucknell (4-2) hit at a slightly higher .233 clip.

"We need to continue to find more offense," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "I told the girls without more offense, we can dig, we can pass, and we can play tough, but if we are not offensive enough, it is not going to help us win a game."

Shelby Connors led the offense Sunday with 13 kills and a .462 attack percentage.  She also contributed to five of the team's eight blocks.

Rebecca Ingram registered a season-high 10 kills, while Eva Deisa added nine kills and a team-high 17 digs.

Naina Ivanova recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs.  Chelcie Spence picked up 15 digs as well.

Mimi Richards tallied 17 kills and seven blocks for Bucknell.

Now with six matches under their belt, are the young Hatters starting to play together better?

"Yes, definitely," Deng said.  "I feel they are getting much more comfortable with each other."

The Hatters will travel to Houston, Texas next weekend for the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup.  Stetson will face Houston and Mississippi State on Friday and McNeese State on Saturday.
