Strong Second Half Leads Hatters to Victory

Four players scored in double figures and Stetson limited NJIT to 29 percent shooting in the second half as the Hatters evened their ASUN Conference record with an 80-67 win over the Highlanders, Thursday at Edmunds Center.

Senior Divine Myles led the balanced Hatters (9-9, 1-1) with 20 points. Junior Leo Goodman added a season-high 15 points off the bench, making all six of his field goal attempts including three from 3-point range. Senior B.J. Glasford scored 15 and fellow senior Angel Rivera chipped in with 10.

The Hatters got off to a fast start and led 7-0 less than 90 seconds into the game. But the Highlanders (8-9, 1-1) recovered and led 41-34 at halftime.

After allowing NJIT to shoot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, Stetson's defense went to work after halftime. The Highlanders missed eight of their first 10 shots to start the second half, permitting Stetson to regain control of the game.

While the Highlanders were struggling, the Hatters were soaring. Stetson made 7 of its first 11 shots in the second half en route to 59 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.

Back-to-back layups by Goodman and Myles gave the Hatters a 57-51 lead with 11:03 left. Stetson's lead reached double figures for the first time when Glasford completed a three-point play with 8:01 left for a 66-54 advantage.

NJIT twice got to within six points but the Hatters closed the game on a 8-1 run in the final 1:34 to secure the victory.

Anthony Tarke led NJIT with a game-high 23 points, but was just 9 of 20 from the field.

Stetson continues ASUN play when the Hatters host USC Upstate, 4 p.m., Saturday.
