Hatters Come Up Short Against Bethune-Cookman

Bethune-Cookman placed four players in double figure and limited Stetson to 34.4 percent shooting as the Wildcats handed the Hatters a 74-62 setback, Monday at Edmunds Center.
 
Brandon Tabb scored a game-high 18 points for the Wildcats (10-9), who have won five straight games.
 
Stetson (10-10) never led despite limiting the Wildcats to 42.9 percent shooting, including a 6 of 22 effort from beyond the three-point arc.
 
The Hatters fell into an early hole and never recovered. Bethune led 13-4 less than six minutes into the game, and enjoyed their first 10-point lead of the game when Houston Smith tipped in a miss by Shawntrez Davis for a 17-7 advantage with 10:51 before halftime.
 
The Hatters managed to get the lead down to two when a Divine Myles layup made it 24-22 with 3:19 before half, but the Wildcats went into halftime on a 10-2 run and led 34-24 at the break.
 
Stetson opened the second half by cutting the deficit down to five points (34-29), but the Wildcats responded 7-2 run to make it 41-31 with 15:26 to go.
 
After building the lead back up to as many as 17 points (54-37) the Hatters again whittled it down, to just six when a Leo Goodman 3-pointer made it 56-50 with 7:07 to play, but the Wildcats  went on a  10-2 run and led 66-52 with 3:11 to go. Stetson never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
 
Leo Goodman led the Hatters with 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Myles added 13 points and B.J. Glasford chipped in with 11.
 
Davis and Isaiah Bailey each scored 17 points for the Wildcats, and Soufiyane Diakite had a double-double with 10 points and 15 boards.
 
Stetson next visits Kennesaw State, 7 p.m., Thursday.
 
News & Notes
  • Midway through the second half Divine Myles became the 27th player in school history to reach 500 career rebounds. He now needs 51 assists to become the first player in program history with 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
  • Leo Goodman tied his career high with 17 points. In the last three games, Goodman is averaging 13.3 points and shooting 66.7 percent (8-12) from 3-point range.
  • Larry Dennis grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 2 shots in just 13 minutes
  • Stetson's 16 turnovers were its most in 15 games
  • The Hatters were 15 of 17 from the free throw line (88.2 percent), its second-best percentage of the season
