Hatters Conclude Play at Varner Memorial

Stetson women's tennis concluded play at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational, Sunday at Rollins College in Winter Park.

The four-team event featured Stetson, Rollins, St. Leo and Eckerd.

Sophomore Vicky Geurinckx and junior Lucie Renault were the big individual winners for the Hatters on Sunday, but the duo came up just short in their quest for the doubles title, falling to Rollins, 8-6.

Renault defeated Teresa Kaiser of Rollins (6-2, 6-1) to win the Flight A consolation championship, and Geurinckx won her third-place match with Olga Durzynski of Rollins 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.

Solli won the consolation championship in Flight B after her opponent retired in the first set.

"There were some mixed results this weekend," head coach Travis Sandlant said. "Our freshman got a lot of matches in with some good results. Next week will be a big event at the Bedford Cup."
