Hatters Sweep NJIT To Extend Win Streak to Four

Riley Nieporte Leads with nine kills

Newark, N.J. -- Stetson rallied in sets 2 and 3 to sweep NJIT 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-23) Sunday afternoon at the Wellness and Events Center.

With the victory, the Hatters (16-10, 8-6 ASUN) have their longest win streak (4) since 2014 and their highest ASUN win total (8) since 2013.  

Stetson came out roaring Sunday, hitting .529 in the first set to win 25-13.  The Hatters had to rally from 13-9 down in the second set and from 15-9 down in the third to complete a perfect 2-0 road trip.

"We played fairly well, especially the first two games," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "We just have to continue to learn to play consistently regardless of our opponent.  It's just a learning thing we have to go through."

Riley Nieporte led the offense with nine kills, while Rebecca Ingram came off the bench to hit .750 (6-0-8).  Eva Deisa had 14 digs to lead the defense, while Hao Jin recorded six blocks.  Emily DeStaffino dished out 26 assists.  

The Hatters outhit NJIT .274 to .067.

With 16 victories, Stetson has tied the 2014 team for the second-most wins in the rally-scoring era.  Only the 2013 team (18 wins) had more.

The Hatters will return home to host first-place FGCU on Tuesday and Liberty on Thursday.  It will be the final two matches before the ASUN Championship on Nov. 15-17 in Kennesaw, Ga.

Notes: Stetson set the school RSE record for most team blocks in a season with 233 ... Chelcie Spence moved up to fourth on the Hatters' all-time single-season digs list (446) ... Stetson won three ASUN road matches for just the second time ever ... The Hatters moved to within a game of fourth-place Liberty (9-5 ASUN) ... Stetson is hitting .292 over its last four matches and has won 12 of 13 sets played.
