Hatters Face Lipscomb for ASUN Championship

The program's first NCAA Tournament bid in nearly a decade is on the line when the Stetson men's soccer faces Lipscomb in the ASUN Tournament championship game, 8 p.m., Saturday at Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The sixth-seeded Hatters (7-9-2), who last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2009, advanced to their first ASUN championship game since 2010 with a pair of upset wins last weekend in Fort Myers, Fla. Stetson opened tournament play with a 3-1 win over North Florida, and two days later defeated FGCU, 5-4, in penalty kicks after the teams played to a 1-1 draw.

Freshmen Lewis Scattergood and Guilherme Pinheiro, along with senior goalkeeper Braeden Luna, have been the standouts for Stetson through the tournament's first two games. Scattergood has scored three of Stetson's four goals, while Pinheiro tallied what proved to be the winning PK against FGCU. Luna has allowed just two goals in 200 minutes and made the game-winning save in the penalty kick round just moments after Pinheiro gave the Hatters the lead.

Lipscomb, the tournament's top seed after winning the ASUN regular-season title, is the defending tournament champion. The Bisons (8-9-0) defeated Jacksonville, 2-1 last Sunday in Nashville to reach the title game for the second time in program history.

News & Notes: Stetson will be playing in the ASUN Tournament championship game for the sixth time in program history on Saturday … the Hatters, who won tournament titles in 2005 and 2009, also played in the title game in 2002 and 2010 … a win will send the Hatters to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history (2005, 2009) … Stetson's 28 goals this season are its most since the 2014 team scored 34.
