Hatters Back on the Road Friday at Longwood

Stetson men's basketball is looking to head into the holiday break on a positive note when the Hatters visit Longwood, 7 p.m., Friday in Farmville, Va. The game will be streamed live in ESPN+.
 
The Hatters (3-10) enter Friday's contest fresh from a thrilling 80-74 win over UNC Asheville on Tuesday. Stetson trailed by 10 points with just over eight minutes to play before closing the game with a 28-12 to get the win.
 
Sophomore Keith Matthews scored a career-high 17 points in 29 minutes off the bench to lead the Hatters. Matthews also added 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and a pair of blocked shots to his scoring line. Kenny Aninye (14), Leo Goodman (13) and Marques Sumner (11) joined Matthews in double figures.
 
Longwood (8-5) in off to a strong start under first year head coach Griff Aldrich. The Lancers suffered a 70-64 loss at Cornell on Monday. Longwood is led in scoring by junior guard Shabooty Phillips at 14.1 points per game.
 
Game Notes
•The Hatters close out the 2018 calendar year on Friday when they visit Longwood in Farmville, Va.
•This is just the third meeting all-time between the Hatters and Lancers, and the first since 2008. The series is tied at one win apiece. Both previous meetings occurred during the 2007-08 season.
•Longwood is a member of the Big South Conference. Stetson defeated fellow Big South member UNC Asheville on Tuesday.
•Former NBA star Jerome Kersey is a Longwood product. Kersey, who played parts of 17 seasons for Portland, Golden State, the Lakers, Seattle, San Antonio and Milwaukee from 1984-2001, died in 2015.
•Sophomore forward Abayomi Iyiola needs 25 points to reach 500 for his career
•Since being inserted into the starting lineup eight games ago, sophomore point guard Kenny Aninye is averaging .9 assists per game. His season average of 4.2 assists per game ranks second in the ASUN Conference.
