Hatters Rally for 4-2 Win Over Iowa State

Box Score Stetson freshman Brooke Milner rallied for a three-set victory to clinch a 4-2 win for the Hatters in women's tennis action against Iowa State, Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
Milner, playing at No. 5 singles, came back from an early deficit, won a second-set tiebreaker and closed out the match with an easy win in the third set. Overall, Milner captured a 1-6, 7-6 (6-2), 6-1 victory.
 
"The overall team effort was big today," Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant said. "We showed some big-time heart and grit today, which was awesome to see."
 
The Hatters (4-1) and Milner really had to fight for this one. Stetson found itself on the wrong end of the scoreboard after dropping two of three doubles matches. Only the No. 2 duo of Milner & Lucie Renault earned a win, with a 6-3 score.
 
Arijana Korac evened things up in a hurry for the Hatters once played moved to singles. The Hatters' No. 1 player earned a 6-2, 6-4 win, but the Cyclones (5-2) responded with a win at No. 6 to take a 2-1 lead.
 
From there it was all Stetson. Vicky Geurinckx tied the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3, and Renault made it 3-2 with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4.
 
Milner clinched the match moments later.
 
The Hatters next host Oakland, 10 a.m., Feb. 21.
