Hatters Ink Six on National Signing Day

Stetson women's soccer head coach Manoj Khettry, and assistant coaches Emily Buccilla and Eric Reyes, announced today the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent to continue their education and playing careers with the Hatters, beginning next fall.

The Class of 2022 includes: Maggie Beatty (Avon, Ohio/Avon HS), Kate Carter (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon HS), Nicole Foley (Chantilly, Va./Champe HS), Jeanel Leon (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage HS), Maiya Matos (Boynton Beach, Fla./Boca Raton Community HS) and Jordan Ross (Parkland, Fla./Douglas HS).

"Emily, Eric and I are excited about this class," Khettry said. "We've had the majority of these players committed since the spring of 2016, so we have gotten to know them very well, had opportunities to observe them over the past two years and have worked with them at our camps and clinics. We all feel very comfortable with the relationships we have built with each of them and know that will continue to improve.

"On paper this is one of the best classes we have recruited. Unfortunately you don't win games on paper, but we are confident that these additions will make us better. They all come from high-level programs with winning traditions and competitive environments; we are adding kids who are used to winning. Our goal is to make sure that when they step foot on campus to begin the fall, all of them have continued to develop and are physically fit and able to step in and compete for playing time immediately."

Khettry on Beatty: "Maggie has great size and athleticism; she is a two-sport athlete. She is very strong at reading balls in flight and dealing with crosses. She has strong hands, is a good shot-stopper and very proficient with her feet. She has a great training attitude and we know she will continue to develop and improve and challenge for playing time."

KATE CARTER11230

Khettry on Carter: "Kate is a very technical player, especially for someone with her size. She is very good in the air and especially on set-pieces and corners on both ends. We see her playing a number of positions potentially in the middle of the field and I know she will both create chances for others with her passing as well as score goals herself. She has the potentially to be dominant and special in the air, but also has great vision and range with her passing."

NICOLE FOLEY11231

Khettry on Foley: "First of all, Nicole comes from a strong soccer background (her father owned and directed FC Virginia) so her soccer IQ is outstanding. When you watch Nicole play, she rarely makes poor decisions. She has a special left-foot and can strike a ball from distance as well as has great range and vision in her passing. She is very good with linking the backs to the forwards and an excellent ball-mover who will compete for time in the middle of midfield. Nicole is also very good in the air and is great with her set-piece accuracy and services."

Khettry on Leon: "Jeanel is a gritty and tough individual defender, who likes to get up and down the flank from her left-back position. We also feel she has the ability to play centrally. Jeanel is a winner and has a winning attitude having won numerous state championship titles with her high school and with her club team. She is a very committed person and I know her attitude to want to win will help an already strong defensive unit become a better one."

Khettry on Matos: "Maiya is an athletic and versatile player whom we can see playing in a number of positions. She has pace; she is tough and has a great work-rate. We see her playing either in the backline, as a wide in midfield or possibly as a central midfielder. She is a competitor and has ability on both sides of the ball. She is another player whose grit, tenacity and work-rate will add quality to our team."
