McKenna Beach, Sydney Wagner Sweep ASUN Weekly Awards

Hatters Continue to Chalk Up ASUN Honors

ASUN Release

DeLand, Fla. --
Following a pair of high-scoring victories over the weekend, Stetson University junior McKenna Beach has been named the ASUN Player of the Week, while Sydney Wagner has been named ASUN Newcomer and Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Beach made a huge impact on both ends of the floor, averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in wins over Kennesaw State and Lipscomb.  Offensively, she shot 52 percent from the floor and 46 percent from the arc.  Against the Lady Bisons on Monday, she scored a career-high 22 points with seven assists, five steals and three blocks, helping Stetson clinch the No. 3 seed for next month's ASUN tournament.

It is the first career Player of the Week honor for Beach.

Wagner, meanwhile, was on fire last week, scoring 19 points each vs. Kennesaw State and Lipscomb, and nailing four 3-pointers in each game. She shot a blistering 70.6 percent (12-17) from the floor and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the arc while helping spark the Hatters to back-to-back 90-point games.

It is Wagner's first Newcomer of the Week award and second Freshman of the Week award this season.

"They were both awesome the past two games," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I think they are shooting the ball well.  McKenna has done everything for us all year, and this honor is well-deserved.  Sydney has really adjusted to the pace of the game and she is playing with a lot of confidence right now."

The Hatters have now earned seven Freshman of the Week awards, five Player of the Week awards, and one Newcomer of the Week honor this season.  Michelle Pruitt had won the previous three consecutive Freshman of the Week awards.

Stetson (17-12, 8-5 ASUN) will conclude the regular season Saturday afternoon against FGCU (26-4, 12-1).  Tip-off at the Edmunds Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
