Hatters Blanked by Barry

Box Score Stetson women's tennis suffered a 4-0 loss to Barry, Friday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

Barry (7-0), the defending NCAA Division II national champion, has won 37 consecutive matches dating back to last season. Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant was pleased with his team's effort against such a formidable foe.

"By far they're the best team we've played so far, Sandlant said. "We knew it wasn't going to be an easy match but I thought we hung in there and gave it our best shot, I just think we lacked a little bit of belief at the start. We competed hard and we can walk away with our heads held high."

The Buccaneers breezed past Stetson in doubles action, winning the team point with a 6-3 win at No. 2 and a 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Singles action was much closer, but the Hatters lost matches at Nos. 4-6 as Barry clinched the match. Stetson was either tied or leading in the three singles matches that didn't finish.

Stetson returns to the courts when the Hatters host Nova Southeastern, 1 p.m., Sunday.
