Hatters Edged By No. 8 South Carolina and No. 4 Florida State

DeLand, Fla. -- No. 15 Stetson dropped a pair of matches against two Top 10 opponents Saturday, falling 3-2 to No. 8 South Carolina and 4-1 to No. 4 Florida State at the Stetson Spring Fling.

Against the Gamecocks, Stetson got wins from Darby Dunn and Sammee Thomas at the 2 seed and from Rachel Noble and Samantha Harris at the 3 seed.

Against the Seminoles, Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales won at the 2 seed, while the 1 and 3 seeds each battled into a third set.

"I think our 1s, 2s, and 3s throughout the day were just really tough, and they played extremely well," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "Everything is being determined there by just two or three points. We still have some work with the 4 and the 5 in terms of just trying to pull out a win there. The good thing is that we are very strong at the top right now and we are competing really well. Rach and Sam have gotten a lot stronger every single game they have played. That was a tough match for them against FSU. We have another crack at them next week, and we just have to find some strength at the 4 and the 5."

Stetson will travel to the FSU Invitational next weekend in Tallahassee.
