Hatters Sweep Nova Southeastern

Box Score Stetson women's tennis got back to their winning ways on Sunday with a 7-0 win over visiting Nova Southeastern at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

The Hatters (6-2) benefitted from an NSU squad which featured just four players. But despite the lopsided advantage, Stetson still had to battle.

Stetson won the doubles point. Nova was forced to forfeit at No. 3, and Stetson's No. 2 tandem of Brooke Milner and Lucie Renault emerged with a 6-1 win to put Stetson ahead 1-0.

The Sharks also forfeited a pair of singles matches, at No. 5 & 6, so all the Hatters had to do was win one singles to get the team win. Renault came through at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-2 win as Stetson clinched the win.

And it's a good thing Renault was on her game because the other three matches all reached a third set super-tiebreaker. Arijana Korac was victorious at No. 1 by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7), and Vicky Geurinckx captured a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5).

Maxine Bateman closed out the afternoon with a 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 4.

The Hatters next host Mercer, 10 a.m., Sunday, March 4.
