Hatters Edged by Eastern Kentucky

Box Score Stetson women's tennis suffered a 4-3 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Monday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

With rain in the area, the teams decided to play singles first instead of doubles, but that couldn't keep Mother Nature from intervening. Less than 30 minutes into the start of the play the Hatters (7-4) and Colonels (5-7) were forced into a nearly four-hour delay.

As play resumed Brooke Milner gave the Hatters a 1-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. But the Colonels made quick work of the Hatters' top three players after that, taking a 3-1 lead.

Stetson fought back as Lucie Renault gained a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4. Maxine Bateman kept the Hatters alive with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5, meaning the match would be decided in doubles.

The Colonels proved to be the better team in doubles, with wins at No.1 and No. 3 to clinch the match.

Stetson returns to action when the Hatters host Western Kentucky, 10 a.m., Wednesday.
