Hatters Sweep on Day 2 of the Tiger Beach Challenge

Stetson rallies for a 3-2 win over Charleston

Baton Rouge, La. -- For the second time this season, Stetson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the College of Charleston 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Tiger Beach Challenge in Baton Rouge.  The 17th-ranked Hatters (14-6) followed with a 5-0 sweep over New Orleans to complete the weekend with a 4-1 record.

"The Charleston match was tough, but we grinded it out at the 1s, 2s, and 3s," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "Those seeds did well the entire weekend.  The New Orleans match was good.   We have played a lot back-to-back matches and it was pretty hot today for everybody.  Finishing 4-1 on the weekend was pretty good."

Against the Cougars, Stetson trailed 2-0 when Rachel Noble and Samantha Harris picked up a 21-18, 21-15 victory at the 3 seed to give the Hatters their first point.  Darby Dunn and Sammee Thomas tied the score with a 21-16, 21-14 win at the 1 seed.  Lastly, Carly Perales and Sunniva Helland-Hansen delivered the clincher with a 21-18, 21-19 win at the 2 seed.

Stetson pulled a similar comeback against the Cougars on March 2 in Tallahassee.

Against the Privateers, the Hatters won 2-0 at all five seeds, including a 21-14, 21-11 win by Lauren Durham and Julie Varga at the 4 seed and a 21-9, 21-9 win by Quinci Birker and Rebecca Ingram at the 5 seed.

The Hatters have now won 28 straight matches against unranked opponents and have won 11 of their last 12 matches overall.

Stetson will begin ASUN play next weekend against Mercer and Coastal Carolina in Macon, Ga.
