Hatters Face Mercer, Coastal Carolina in ASUN Opener

DeLand, Fla. -- The 17th-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team (14-6, 0-0) will begin defense of its ASUN regular season title this weekend in Macon, Ga. The Hatters will face Mercer and Coastal Carolina on Friday and again on Saturday at Bear Beach.

Here is the schedule:

Friday:
12 p.m. Stetson at Mercer (4-5)
4 p.m. Stetson vs. Coastal Carolina (0-2)

Saturday
12 p.m. Stetson at Mercer
4 p.m. Stetson vs. Coastal Carolina

This will be Stetson's third trip to Bear Beach. The Hatters swept a double dual from Mercer in 2014 and again in 2016. Stetson is 14-1 all-time against Mercer and 2-0 against Coastal Carolina.

Lofty ASUN Record
The Hatters are 36-6 all-time in ASUN regular season play. Stetson has won 12 straight regular season ASUN matches and is 27-1 in its last 28 ASUN regular season matches. The Hatters have won at least a share of the ASUN regular season championship in each the past three seasons.

National Rankings
The Hatters are currently ranked 17th in the nation in this week's AVCA Beach Poll. It is the 31st consecutive week the Hatters have been ranked in the AVCA Poll, dating back to the 2015 season. Stetson is also ranked 16th in the DiG Magazine Collegiate Beach Poll.

Hatters on a Roll
The Hatters have won 11 of their last 12 matches and have outscored their opponents 49-11 in duals during that stretch. Stetson leads the ASUN with 14 victories on the season.

100+ Wins for Coach Hernandez
Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez earned her 100th victory with Stetson Beach on March 24 vs. Tulane.

vs. Unranked Opponents
Stetson is 12-0 against unranked opponents this season and has won 28 straight matches against unranked opponents dating back to last year.

All-Time Record
Stetson Beach is in its eighth season of competition and the Hatters hold an all-time record of 124-59 (.675).

Success at the Top Seeds
The Hatters are 45-15 at the top three seeds combined, including 17-3 at the 2 seed.

Success at the Bottom Seeds
The 4 and 5 seeds are 20-4 combined in the past 12 matches.

Team Leaders
With a 16-4 record, Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales lead the team and the ASUN in dual match victories. They are 9-4 at the 1 seed and 7-0 at the 2 seed. Sammee Thomas and Darby Dunn rank second on the team in dual wins (15-5), while Samantha Harris and Rachel Noble rank third (14-6).

Pairs of the Week
On March 20, Quinci Birker and Rebecca Ingram were named ASUN Pair of the Week after going a perfect 4-0 at the Hickory Point Lake Bash. On Feb. 27, Thomas and Dunn earned ASUN Pair of the Week honors after going 3-1 at the Stetson Spring Fling.
