Hatters Perfect in Tripleheader Sweep

DeLand, Fla. -- Facing the challenge of playing three duals in one day, Stetson came through with a trio of 5-0 sweeps over Tampa, Texas A&M - Kingsville, and Florida Southern Friday morning and afternoon at the Cooper Beach Courts.

The 16th-ranked Hatters won all 30 sets on the day to improve to 6-5 on the season.

"I thought we did really well today, everybody 1 through 6," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "I think overall we started off really strong and controlled most of the matches. I was glad to see our lower seeds come out and be really confident and aggressive. Overall, I am really happy with our team today and their mentality."

At the 1 seed, Darby Dunn and Sammee Thomas were a perfect 3-0. There best scores on the day were a 21-9, 21-8 win over Florida Southern.

Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales went 3-0 at the 2 seed, including a 21-16, 21-7 win over Tampa.

At the 3 seed, Rachel Noble and Samantha Harris won all three matches, including a 21-14, 21-14 win over Florida Southern. The victory was the 50th career win for Noble.

"I am really happy with (Rachel) and Sam," Hernandez said. "They have come a long way in such a short amount of time."

Quinci Birker and Rebecca Ingram won 2-0 at the 4 seed against Florida Southern, and 2-0 at the 5 seed against TAMUK.

Alexa Richardson and Katinka Krahn won 2-0 at the 4 seed against Tampa, and 2-0 at the 5 seed against Florida Southern.

Lastly, Julie Varga and Lauren Durham won 2-0 at the 4 seed against TAMUK and 2-0 at the 5 seed against Tampa.

The Hatters will host the Hickory Point Lake Bash next weekend in Tavares, Fla.
