No. 17 Hatters Seek Fourth ASUN Regular Season Title

DeLand, Fla. -- The 17th-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team (23-8, 6-0 ASUN) will look to capture its fourth straight ASUN regular season title this weekend as the Hatters face UNF and Jacksonville at Estero Community Park near Fort Myers.  Three wins would give Stetson a share of the title and four wins would allow Stetson to win it outright.

Here is the schedule:

Friday:
12 p.m. Stetson at UNF (16-7, 6-0)
6 p.m. Stetson vs. Jacksonville (5-12, 3-3)

Saturday
12 p.m. Stetson at UNF 
4 p.m. Stetson vs. Jacksonville 

The Hatters are 10-10 all-time vs. UNF and 16-2 all-time vs. Jacksonville.

National Rankings
The Hatters are currently ranked 17th in the nation in this week's AVCA Beach Poll.  It is the 33rd consecutive week the Hatters have been ranked in the AVCA Poll, dating back to the 2015 season.  Stetson is also ranked 19th in the DiG Magazine Collegiate Beach Poll.

23 Dual Match Wins
Since starting the year 3-5, the Hatters have won 20 of their last 23 matches and have outscored their opponents 93-22 in duals during that stretch.  Stetson ranks third in the NCAA with 23 victories on the season.  All eight losses have come to Top 15 opponents.

Streaking in the ASUN
  • The Hatters have won 19 straight matches against ASUN opponents, dating back to last year
  • The Hatters are 6-0 in ASUN play this year and have won 27 of 30 matches and 57 of 65 sets played
  • The Hatters have won 18 straight and 33 of its last 34 ASUN regular season matches.  The Hatters are 42-6 all-time in ASUN regular season play. 
Unranked Opponents
Stetson is 21-0 against unranked opponents this season and has won 37 straight matches against unranked opponents dating back to last year.  The Hatters are 2-8 against ranked opponents but have won seven wins against teams receiving votes in the AVCA poll.

Team Leaders
Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales lead the ASUN with 26 dual match victories.  Sammee Thomas and Darby Dunn rank second with 25.  Samantha Harris and Rachel Noble rank third with 21.

Pairs of the Week
Stetson has had four ASUN Pairs of the Week this season.  Dunn and Thomas have been named twice (Feb. 27, April 10), Helland-Hansen and Perales once (April 3), and Quinci Birker and Rebecca Ingram once (March 20).

100+ Wins for Coach Hernandez
Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez earned her 100th victory with Stetson Beach on March 24 vs. Tulane. She is 111-42 in her fifth season with the Hatters.

All-Time Record
Stetson Beach is in its eighth season of competition and the Hatters hold an all-time record of 133-61 (.686).

Success at the Top Two Seeds
The Hatters are 51-10 at the top two seeds combined, including 27-4 at the 2 seed.

Career Rankings
Noble ranks third on Stetson's all-time wins list with 63 dual match victories.  She trails only Kristin Lind (88) and Kaylee Anderson (77).  Dunn is one victory shy of the 50-win mark.  Harris and Helland-Hansen have 45 wins apiece.

Single-Season Rankings
Helland-Hansen and Perales have 26 dual match victories this season.  That ranks as the second-highest single-season total in school history.  They are seven wins shy of breaking the all-time record of 32 wins set by Vendy Strakova and Sara Putt in 2016.
