Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Athletic Communications

Hatters Edge Towson for 2-0 Start

Veterans Lindsey Parent and Hailey Williams each scored goals and freshman Nicole Foley added a pair of assists as Stetson women's soccer held on for a 2-1 victory over Towson on a sweltering day at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand.

The victory gives Stetson its first 2-0-0 start since the 2005 team opened the season with a 3-0-0 mark.

With game-time temperatures in the mid-90s, the Hatters and Tigers (0-2-0) struggled to mount much offense over the game's first 45 minutes. But the Hatters came out strong in the second half.

Parent gave Stetson a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the second half when she took a perfect left-to-right cross from Foley and scored inside the six-yard box.

Barely a minute later, Foley was at it again when her free kick from nearly the same spot on the left side of the field was corralled by fellow freshman Lily Truong, who took a shot from near point-blank range. Towson keeper Megan Collins made the save but the rebound came right out to Williams, who found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Stetson kept Towson off the board until the 82nd minute, when Evelyn Neidert chipped a shot over goalkeeper Emily Plotz who had come out of the box to play a loose ball.

But the Tigers never mounted another serious threat and the Hatters held on for the win.

Plotz made five saves for the game, facing a total of 13 shots. Collins had two saves for the Tigers on seven shots.

Stetson returns to action when the Hatters visit Navy, 5 p.m., Friday.
