Hatters Victorious in Overtime

Stetson freshman Kate Carter scored the game's only goal in the second overtime period as the Hatters downed Georgia Southern, 1-0, Friday in Statesboro, Ga.
 
Carter's goal came from the top of the 18-yard box and glanced just off the fingertips of Georgia Southern goalkeeper Jocelyn Springer. Fellow Stetson freshman Jordan Ross recorded the assist as the Hatters (3-2-0) snapped a two-match losing streak.
 
"I was so proud of our toughness and resilience on a really hot day," Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry said. "I told them at the end of regulation that winning overtime games takes guts, and we gutted it out. A number of players gave us great efforts today."
 
It was a sluggish game for both teams, as neither offense mounted much of a threat until late in regulation. Of the 25 total shots between the two teams, nine came in the final five minutes of regulation and overtime.
 
Stetson (3-2-0) was out-shot by Georgia Southern (1-4-0), 13-12, but Hatters' goalkeeper Emily Plotz made seven saves en route to her 13th career shutout.
 
Stetson next hosts Detroit Mercy, 1 p.m., Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.
