Hatters Set to Tackle Challenging Embry-Riddle Course

ASICS Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic
Site: Embry-Riddle University, Daytona Beach, Fla.
Men: 8K, 7:20 AM
Women: 5K, 7:50 AM

The Stetson men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Daytona Beach this weekend for their second event of the season, the ASICS Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic.

The event will take place Saturday morning beginning with the men, who are set to run an 8K race at 7:20 a.m. The women will follow with a 5K race at 7:50 a.m.

"The Embry-Riddle course is probably the most challenging course in the state of Florida when it comes to pure cross country," Stetson head coach Bryan Harmon said. "There are hills, there are turns, there's soft surface, there's sand.  Its got a little bit of everything."

For the men's race, Harmon plans to hold out some of his top runners who have seen a larger amount of work lately in favor of giving some of his other runners an opportunity at a larger role.

"It's a chance for our freshmen to get acquainted to the 8K distance, and also a chance for some of our other men to step up, which they're certainly more than capable of doing."

For the women, Harmon wants to hold Meggie Schneider out one more week to avoid any potential difficulty with the tough Embry-Riddle course.  For the rest of the runners, Harmon looks forward to seeing his team improve upon the season's opening race at Florida Atlantic.

"Our workouts have been better, so I expect some better performances this weekend. We've stepped it up in the toughness department."

Harmon sees Saturday's race as a good, low-pressure event to prepare his runners for upcoming races at Florida and Florida State.

"That's where there are going to be some big dogs on the course, and we've got to be ready to roll with the punches there."

Results from the ASICS Classic will be posted at elitetiming.net.  GoHatters.com will also have a post-race recap.
