Hatters Open ASUN Play at UNF, Jacksonville

Stetson women's soccer opens ASUN Conference play this weekend as the Hatters visit North Florida on Friday and Jacksonville on Sunday.

The Hatters (3-4-2) enter conference play following last Sunday's 5-1 loss to UCF. Sunday's game capped a difficult three-game stretch in which Stetson also visited LSU (L, 0-2), and hosted by Miami (T, 1-1) in addition to facing the Knights.

Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry hopes these last three games have properly prepared his team for the start of conference.

"It's going to be a tough weekend," Khettry said. "I think there's going to be greater parity in the conference between teams two, three, four, five and six. I really do. I think it's going to be difficult. Hopefully these last three games have taught us that we need to come prepared to play 90 minutes every game and that if we're not, we're not going to have success."

Stetson has been struggling offensively for much of the season. The Hatters rank seventh in the ASUN in goals (8), and have scored just twice in their last four games. Lindsey Parent and Hailey Williams lead the Hatters with two goals apiece.

UNF (5-3-0) is off to one of its best starts in recent memory, despite having a pair of games canceled due to weather. The Ospreys have won five straight overall, and haven't lost since Aug. 26. UNF is third in the ASUN with 19 goals and ranks first in shots per game (17.8). Kendra Hoffman and Thais Reiss ae tied for the team lead with four goals apiece.

Jacksonville (0-7-1) is still looking for its first win of the season. Due to the effects of Hurricane Florence, the Dolphins haven't played since a Sept. 9 loss at Charleston Southern. The Dolphins are last in the ASUN in scoring with five goals.

News & Notes: Stetson is 9-6-0 all-time against UNF, including a 3-0 win last season in Jacksonville … the Hatters are 9-15-2 all-time against Jacksonville … JU and Stetson split a pair of games last year, with the Hatters taking a 2-1 decision in the regular-season finale at Jacksonville, and the Dolphins grabbing a 2-0 win in the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals a week later … Stetson will be looking for its first win since a 1-0 overtime win at Georgia Southern on Aug. 31.

Up next: The Hatters open a four-game home stand when they host Lipscomb on Sept. 28.
