Hatters Blanked at LSU

LSU's Abby Newton and Molly Thompson each scored goals as the Tigers downed Stetson, 2-0, Thursday in Baton Rouge, La.
 
Stetson (3-3-1) entered the contest with a 221-minute opponent scoreless streak, and the Hatters were able to keep the Tigers (5-1-0) off the scoreboard until the 35th minute. Newton scored on a header off a corner kick by Marlena Cutura.
 
The game remained a 1-0 affair until deep into the second half, when Thompson scored her goal in the 79th minute. Cutura was credited with the assist as LSU grabbed a 2-0 lead.
 
The Tigers pounded 26 shots, including 11 on-goal. Stetson keeper Emily Plotz made a season-high nine saves for the Hatters. LSU keeper Caroline Brockmeier faced four shots and made two saves.
 
The Hatters return to action when they host Miami, 1 p.m., Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.
