Hatters Draw with Miami

Emily Lamas scored her first collegiate goal in the 80th minute as Stetson fought to a 1-1 draw with Miami, Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.

Lamas, a freshman, scored off a beautiful cross from junior Lindsey Parent, poking a shot into the right corner just out of the reach of Miami keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce. Parent took a pass in stride and raced down the right side of the field, sending a cross to the top of the 6-yard box where Lamas was waiting.

The Hatters (3-3-2) needed the late heroics from Lamas after the Hurricanes (3-3-2) scored a fluky goal midway through the second half. Miami's Jamie Brunworth's corner kick from the left corner came into the front of the goal and tipped off the hands of a leaping Stetson keeper Emily Plotz, just crossing the goal line in the 63rd minute.

It looked as though the 1-0 lead would be enough for Miami, but the Hatters came to life in the final 15 minutes of regulation and carried the momentum into overtime where both Lamas and Kate Carter had great looks to win the game, but Tullis-Joyce was able to make saves and preserve the draw.

Plotz and Tullis-Joyce were both strong in goal. Plotz finished with seven saves and Tullis-Joyce had five.

The Hatters return to action when they host UCF, 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16 at the ATC.
