Hatters Cruise Past Grambling State 3-1

Alejandra Perez hits .400 with nine kills and three blocks

Nacagdoches, Texas -- Rebecca Ingram recorded 12 kills and four blocks as Stetson defeated Grambling State 3-1 (26-28, 25-18, 25-9, 25-17) Friday evening at the SFA Volleyball Invitational.

Hao Jin added 11 kills and six blocks as the Hatters improved to 6-2 on the season.  It is Stetson's best start since 1998, prior to the rally-scoring era.

The Hatters also defeated St. John's 3-2 earlier on Friday to begin the SFA Invitational with a 2-0 mark.  Stetson has now won three matches in a row overall.

Sophomore setter Naina Ivanova recorded 42 assists against Grambling State, pushing her over the 1000-assist mark for her career.  She added 15 digs for her fourth straight double-double.

Chelcie Spence led the defense with 21 digs, marking her fifth 20-dig match of the season. Charlotte Earnhart picked up 10 digs, while Brianna Schmid assisted on seven of the team's 13 blocks in the match. 

Freshman Alejandra Perez also made an impact, recording nine kills, seven digs, three blocks, and a .400 attack percentage (9-1-20).  Riley Nieporte hit .444 (5-1-9) in two sets off the bench.

"We had a great team effort today," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "I feel I can sub people in without having to worry.  At the moment we need them, I know they are going to come in and do their job."

The Hatters will go for their second tournament win of the year on Saturday when they face Stephen F. Austin.  First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.

Notes: Stetson hit .267 as a team, marking its eighth straight match with an attack percentage of .200 or better ... The Hatters improved to 7-1 in third sets and 13-4 in sets 3, 4, and 5 ... Naina Ivanova now has 1022 career assists ... The Hatters had 27 blocks in two matches combined on Friday ... Stetson held Grambling State to an opponent season-low nine points in the third set ... The Hatters lead the ASUN in attack percentage (.246).
