Hatters Fall 3-1 to Stephen F. Austin

Charlotte Earnhart records career-high 15 kills

Nacagdoches, Texas -- Trailing 2-0 after 2, Stetson rolled to 25-14 win in Set 3, but Stephen F. Austin held on for a 3-1 (25-21, 25-12, 14-25, 25-16) victory Saturday afternoon at Shelton Gym.

The Hatters completed the SFA Volleyball Invitational with a 2-1 mark and moved to 6-3 overall following their third straight weekend on the road.

Hao Jin and Brianna Schmid were named to the all-tournament team.

Charlotte Earnhart led the way Saturday with a career-high 15 kills, adding the only service ace of the match for the Hatters.  Jin tallied 12 kills, including eight in the third set alone on just nine attempts (.889 attack pct.).

Making her first collegiate start and playing a full rotation, freshman Alejandra Perez picked up a season-best 21 digs.  Chelcie Spence added 18 digs and Eva Deisa collected 11.  Naina Ivanova dished out 35 assists.

Stetson registered just six blocks Saturday after going for 14 and 13 blocks, respectively, in the two matches on Friday.

The Hatters hit .382 in the third set but just .145 overall for the match.  It was the first time this season Stetson had been held under .200 hitting.

Haley Coleman had 15 kills to lead the Ladyjacks (8-2).

The Hatters will finally return home next weekend to host the Stetson Invitational.  Brown, Chicago State and Bethune-Cookman will visit the Edmunds Center for six total matches over two days.  It will be Stetson's final tournament before the start of ASUN play on Sept. 18.

Notes: Hao Jin has recorded double figures in six straight matches ... Stetson is 8-1 in third sets this season ... The Hatters are 6-3 for the first time since 2013.
