Hatters Rally for 3-2 Victory at Liberty

Lynchburg, Va. -- Eva Deisa registered 22 kills while Kaylee Oscarson and Elena Djokovic each added 15 as Stetson rallied for a thrilling 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-17, 15-10) come-from-behind victory over Liberty Sunday afternoon at the Vines Center.

The Hatters (5-11, 2-4 ASUN) won their third match in a row and snapped the Flames' 13-game home winning streak.

The teams traded 25-23 wins in sets 1 and 2 before the Flames moved ahead with a 26-24 decision in the third set. The Hatters bounced back with a commanding 25-17 win in the fourth, then surged to an early 9-4 lead in the fifth.

Stetson called timeout after Liberty closed the gap to 13-10, but Djokovic and Deisa tallied the final two markers to nail down the victory.

It was Stetson's first-ever win over Liberty in six tries.

Deisa topped the 20-kill mark for the second straight match and added 17 digs for her ninth double-double of the year.

Oscarson was on fire from start to finish, collecting a season-high 15 kills on 18 swings without committing an error.  Her .833 attack percentage set a new Vines Center record for the rally-scoring era, and she added six blocks.

Emily DeStaffino registered career-highs of 59 assists and 15 digs while helping Stetson hit .331 as a team.  It was her fourth straight double-double performance. Djokovic recorded 15 kills and hit .375.  Chelcie Spence picked up 21 digs and three aces. Brianna Schmid assisted on four of the team's 10 blocks.

Amelia Johnson had 29 kills to lead Liberty (12-7, 5-2 ASUN).

The Hatters will look to stay hot when they host NJIT and North Alabama on Friday and Saturday at the Edmunds Center.

Notes: Liberty was 7-0 at home this season having dropped just one set all year (Virginia Tech).  The Flames last fell at home on Oct. 12, 2018 to FGCU ... Stetson's last five-set road win in ASUN play came on Oct. 11, 2014 at USC Upstate.
