Hatters Sweep NJIT For Fourth Straight Win

Stetson Hits .471 En Route to 3-0 Victory

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson hit a sizzling .471 as a team and cruised to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) victory over NJIT Friday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (6-11, 3-4) won their fourth match in a row while NJIT (1-21, 0-7) remained winless in league play.

"We always want to strive to play a better game, no matter what the score is," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "We still have so much we need to work on, but they showed tonight that the serving was consistent, the passing was pretty good and the hitting was good.  Emily did a really good of contributing in different ways.  I am proud of them."

Stetson trailed just once – 1-0 to start the game – before taking control of the match.  Elena Djokovic led all players with 14 kills and a .545 attack percentage.  She also recorded a solo block to close out the first set.  Riley Nieporte added nine kills.

"Riley and Elena did a really good job," Deng said.  "We have been practicing on different shots, and they are doing what we've ask them to do."

Emily DeStaffino registered her fifth straight double-double with a 39-assist, 13-dig performance.  Chelcie Spence added 10 digs while Kaylee Oscarson tallied three blocks.

Stetson's .471 attack percentage is the second-highest single-match total in school history (rally scoring era) and the team's highest-ever total in an ASUN match.  Brianna Schmid hit .714 (5-0-7), Oscarson hit .667 (6-0-9), and Djokovic hit .545 (14-2-22).

The Hatters have a combined .329 attack percentage during their current four-game win streak.

"Our confidence is definitely building," Deng said.  "We talked about if you don't move forward, you are going backwards, so we have to continue to move forward to build our confidence and play a better game."

The Hatters will go for their fifth straight win Saturday night against North Alabama. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Notes: Eva Deisa surpassed the 800-kill mark for her career ... Emily DeStaffino is 20 assists away from 1000.
