Duluth, Ga. – The Stetson men's golf team was unable to bounce back from second round struggles on Monday, posting a 298 in the final round of the Autotrader Collegiate Classic on Tuesday to finish 12
th in the 13-team field.
After posting a 293 in the opening round of play on Monday, the Hatters were in the middle of the pack, but a 302 in the afternoon round dropped Stetson to 12
th. A 298 in the final round of play on Tuesday did not improve the Hatters' standing.
James Madison led the tournament at the Berkeley Hills Country Club from start to finish. The Dukes opened with a 281 and followed up with rounds of 280 and 283, finishing with a five-under par 844 to take a five-shot victory over second place Lipscomb. USC Upstate finished third, 17 shots off the lead.
Lipscomb's Nolan Ray was basically unchallenged for medalist honors in the event, posting scores of 66, 68 and 68 for a 14-under par total of 202, four shots better that George Heath of James Madison. Ray had 19 birdies in the tournament against just three bogeys and one double-bogey.
Senior
Chris Williard was the top finisher in the event for the Hatters, posting a final round score of 71 to move up 15 spots into a tie for 35
th after opening on Monday with consecutive rounds of 75. Williard's final round included an Eagle on the par five 10
th hole.
Freshman
Mason Quagliata also tied for 35
th with his five-over par total 221. He opened the tournament with a 73 and matched that score in the final round after a second round 75.
Sophomore
Carson Tewell finished two shots behind his teammates after a final round 74.
Sophomore
Benjamin Resnick and freshman
Jon Lumley both struggled on Tuesday. Resnick posted a final round score of 80 to finish with an 18-over par 234 while Lumley finished with a round of 85 to total a 19-over par 235.
The Hatters will close out the fall season at the FGCU Classic on October 28-29 at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Fla.
