Hatters Rally For 3-2 Victory and Sixth Straight Win

Stetson improves to 5-4 in ASUN play

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Kaylee Oscarson's game-winning block in the fifth set capped off a dramatic comeback as Stetson rallied to defeat North Florida 3-2 Friday night at UNF Arena.

The Hatters (8-11, 5-4 ASUN) dropped the first two sets by identical 27-25 scores but battled back with 26-24, 25-21, and 15-13 set victories to win their sixth match in a row.  It is the team's longest win streak since 2013.

Stetson trailed 12-10 in the fifth set but scored five of the final six points to complete the comeback.

"We fought hard," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "Obviously playing an away game at North Florida - and they brought everything against us - was tough. We consistently tried to stay in the game and fight. We never gave up. That is something we've talked about in the past, and that's how we played."

The Hatters completed a season sweep of UNF while earning their second straight five-set victory on the road.  Stetson defeated Liberty 3-2 in Lynchburg, Va. on Oct. 13.

The Ospreys fell to 10-14, 3-6.

Elena Djokovic and Brianna Schmid each had career-high kill totals.  Djokovic finished with a team-high 19 kills, including critcal back-to-back markers with the score tied at 24 in the third set.  Schmid tallied 14 kills without an error to hit at a .538 clip.

"Elena did an excellent job," Deng said.  "The confidence is really there. She was on top of her game today.  Bri definiely did a great job.  She was very good producing all hitting numbers. As a middle, you can't ask for more."

Two Hatters registered double-doubles.  Emily DeStaffino tallied 53 assists and a career-high 16 digs, while Eva Deisa tallied 10 kills and 20 digs.  Chelcie Spence led the back row with 23 digs, and Alejandra Perez added up 11 digs.  Oscarson recorded five blocks.

The match featured 43 ties and 13 lead changes and took 2:43 to complete.

The Hatters will head to Nashville, Tenn. to face the Lipscomb Bisons at 2 p.m. ET Sunday.  The match will air on ESPN+.

Notes: Stetson recorded 103 digs as a team, the second-highest total in the rally-scoring era.  Ony last year's 114-dig total vs. Chicago State was higher ... Schmid recorded her 500th career kill and Deisa recorded her 900th career dig ... Stetson is 5-0 in fourth and fifth sets during the win streak and 10-1 in sets 3-5 combined ... The Hatters wore temporary jerseys while their uniforms get cleaned after a midweek fire at the Edmunds Center covered the uniforms in smoke.
