Hatters Knock Off Lipscomb For Seventh Straight Win

Stetson wins third straight 3-2 match on the road

Nashville, Tenn. -- The Hatters continued their magical month of October with yet another five-set victory on the road.

Riley Nieporte connected on the final two kills of the match as Stetson rallied for a 3-2 (20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13) victory over Lipscomb Sunday afternoon in an ASUN Conference battle at Allen Arena.

The Hatters (9-11, 6-4 ASUN) won their seventh in a row overall, their sixth straight in conference play, and defeated the Bisons (11-10, 7-3) for the first time since 2003.

It is also Stetson's third straight five-set road victory.  Stetson won at Liberty on Oct. 13 after trailing 2-1, and the Hatters rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat UNF on Friday.

Sunday, the Hatters trailed 7-4 and 10-8 in the fifth set before mounting a game-winning run.  Brianna Schmid had two blocks and a kill during the late flurry, and Nieporte broke a 13-13 tie with back-to-back kills to complete the comeback.

Elena Djokovic led the way with 17 kills, while Nieporte finished with a career-high 14.  Kaylee Oscarson (13) and Schmid (12) combined for 25 kills in the middle, and Eva Deisa added 11.

Emily DeStaffino posted a career-high 60 assists, the most by a Hatter since 2007.  Chelcie Spence picked up 30 digs, one of five Hatters in double digits in that category as well.

Schmid recorded eight block assists as the Hatters collected 13 blocks as a team.

Stetson also finished with a season-high 69 team kills and 94 team digs.

Lipscomb had won the past 23 head-to-head meetings vs. the Hatters.  Stetson had not won at Allen Arena since 2001.  The Bisons had also won six in a row overall and had not dropped a set since Oct. 4.

The Hatters remained in fifth place in the league standings but moved within one game of Liberty and Lipscomb for third place.

Stetson will go for its eighth win a row on Wednesday night against Jacksonville.

Notes: Stetson has won seven straight for the first time since 2013 ... Stetson has won six straight conference matches for the first time since 1985 ... Stetson is 7-1 now in October after going 2-10 in August and September.
