Hatters Fall to FGCU 3-1

DeLand, Fla. -- Snowy Burnam recorded a match-high 17 kills to help FGCU down Stetson 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 25-13) in an ASUN contest Saturday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (2-11, 0-4 ASUN) fell behind 2-0 before battling back with a gritty third set win.  The Eagles (14-3, 4-1 ASUN), however, put the match away with a 25-13 decision in the fourth set.

"Overall, we fought. We played hard," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "Obviously they are a good team, and we need to have everyone bring their best to be able to compete.  You can see we still have a lot of potential.  Our consistency is getting better, and that is something we really work hard on in practice.  We are starting to see some results."

Elena Djokovic led the Hatters with 13 kills, while Emily DeStaffino registered a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs.  Chelcie Spence picked up 20 digs, raising her career total to 1099.

Eva Deisa extended her double-digit digs streak to 13 matches in a row with a 16-dig night. Brianna Schmid, Kaylee Oscarson and Djokovic each recorded four block assists.

FGCU outhit Stetson .291 to .135.

The Hatters will step out of conference play to host Volusia County rival Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. Sunday.  It will be the team's annual Pink Game.
