Hatters Host FGCU on Senior Day

Stetson men's soccer closes out the regular-season on Saturday when the Hatters host FGCU at 7 p.m. in a game which could decide the ASUN Conference regular-season championship.

The Hatters will also honor their five seniors prior to the contest as a part of Senior Day festivities.

Stetson (7-8-2 overall, 3-1-1 ASUN) and FGCU (7-7-2, 3-1-1) are in a three-way tie with North Florida for second place in the ASUN standings as play reaches the final weekend. The Hatters, Eagles (and Ospreys) trail conference leader NJIT by two points in the conference standings. With UNF idle and NJIT hosting Jacksonville, a loss by NJIT means the winner of Stetson-FGCU would claim the regular-season title.

If the Hatters win and NJIT ties JU, the Hatters would be co-champions and the No. 1 seed for next weekend's ASUN Tournament by virtue of Stetson's 3-1 win over the Highlanders on Sept. 21 in DeLand.

Stetson nearly gave itself a huge shot in the arm at No. 6 UCF on Tuesday, before the Knights pulled out a 3-2 win in double overtime. Alex Turner and William Suaut each scored goals but the Knights found the back of the net 45 seconds into the second overtime period to claim the victory.

FGCU has spent time in the Top 25 this year, reaching a high of No. 14 in mid-September. The Eagles suffered a 2-1 loss at home to NJIT last weekend.
