Hatters Down North Alabama to Secure ASUN Tournament Berth

Stetson will be the No. 5 seed in next week's championship

Florence, Ala. -- After dropping the opening set, Stetson roared back with convincing wins in sets 2, 3, and 4 to defeat North Alabama 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-9) Friday night at Flowers Hall.

Eva Deisa and Emily DeStaffino each posted double-doubles as the Hatters (11-14, 8-7 ASUN) clinched a spot in next week's ASUN tournament.  It is the second year in a row Stetson will compete for a conference championship.

Deisa recorded 16 kills and 16 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.  She hit .417 on the night and added four blocks.

DeStaffino registered 44 assists and 16 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.  She helped Stetson hit .291 as a team.

Middle blockers Kaylee Oscarson (12 kills) and Brianna Schmid (11 kills) also reached double digits in kills, while Riley Nieporte and Elena Djokovic each added eight kills apiece.

Naina Ivanova (14 digs), Chelcie Spence (11 digs) and Alejandra Perez (9 digs) helped bolster the defensive effort.  

Stetson's 10-0 run early in the second set helped turned the match around.  The Hatters also had a 12-1 run in the fourth set.

The Lions fell to 4-24, 2-13.

Stetson will travel to NJIT to conclude regular season play on Sunday.  First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.  The Hatters have clinched the No. 5 seed for the tournament and will await Sunday's results to see who their quarterfinal opponent will be.
