Hatters Return to Action, Host Longwood on Sunday

With final exams behind them, Stetson men's basketball returns to the court when the Hatters host Longwood, 4 p.m., Sunday, at Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (5-6) are looking to climb back to .500 after suffering an 88-61 loss last Saturday at VMI. Rob Perry led the Hatters with 19 points and fellow freshman Wheza Panzo chipped in with 11, but the Keydets made 11 of 20 shots from 3-point range in the second half as they pulled away.

For the season, Perry leads the Hatters in scoring at 15.3 points per game, ranking third in the ASUN Conference. Perry is also fourth in the ASUN in 3-point field-goal percentage (.441) and his 26 three-pointers in 11 games leaves his six away from cracking Stetson's freshman top ten.

Longwood (4-6) has lost its last four games, including a 73-65 setback at Morgan State on Dec. 7. The Lancers do not have any players scoring in double figures. Jaylon Wilson leads the way with 8.8 points per game.

•Stetson has just one more home game left in 2019. The Hatters host FIU on Dec. 22.

Under the Hat
•Rob Perry (15.3) and Mahamadou Diawara (13.5) are the highest-scoring freshman tandem in the ASUN Conference at a combined 28.8 points per game. Perry is 15th nationally among all freshmen, and his 34 points at Western Illinois on Nov. 9 is the 2nd-best single-game effort by a freshman this season.
•Perry and Diawara also rank 1-2 on the Hatters in both scoring and rebounding (6.5 per game for Diawara, 4.8 for Perry).
•While the Hatters continue to look for a dependable and consistent third scoring option, freshman Wheza Panzo threw his hat in the ring following his performance at VMI. The 6-7 forward scored 11 points and connected on all 3 of his 3-point attempts. In the last 3 games, Panzo is 6 of 13 from deep.
•Through games of Dec. 11, Stetson freshman Mahamadou Diawara is 19th nationally in field-goal percentage (.638).
