Hatters Renew Rivalry with Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday

Stetson men's basketball returns home on Tuesday as the Hatters host Volusia County rival Bethune-Cookman. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (4-5) and Wildcats (5-3) will be meeting for the 33rd time in series history. Stetson holds a 23-8 advantage in the all-time series, but Bethune-Cookman has won each of the last three meetings.

Stetson is also hoping to bounce back after a 77-53 loss at Kent State last Saturday. Freshman Mahamadou Diawara led the Hatters with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but not much else went right for Stetson against the Golden Flashes.

Bethune-Cookman is off to a strong start, and nearly added to that in their last game, when they were edged by Georgia Tech, 68-65. Senior Cletrell Pope leads the Wildcats in both scoring (14.5) and rebounding (13.2).

The inaugural Teddy Bear Toss will take place at halftime. Be sure to bring your new or gently used stuffed animals to toss out onto the court at halftime. All stuffed animals will be donated to the Neighborhood Center and will be distributed throughout our local community in partnership with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee toy drive.

About the Game
•Tuesday's game will be the 33rd meeting between the Hatters and Wildcats in a series which dates back to 1968. The series has had several stops and starts since that first game 51 years ago, but Stetson and Bethune-Cookman have played at least once a year every season since the 2010-11 athletic year.
•Since the series was rebooted in 2007, it's been a dead heat between the Hatters and Wildcats, with each team winning 6 games. Bethune-Cookman has won four of the last five games, including three straight.
•Stetson's last triumph was a 76-67 victory on Feb. 1, 2017 in Daytona Beach. Divine Myles led the Hatters with a game-high 29 points.
•Stetson coach Donnie Jones is 6-0 all-time against the Wildcats. Bethune-Cookman coach Ryan Ridder is 2-0 against the Hatters.

Under the Hat
•Mahamadou Diawara is the first freshman since Derick Newton in Nov. of 2015 to have consecutive double-doubles. Diawara followed up his 21-point, 10-rebound outing against Florida College last Tuesday with 14 points & 12 rebounds Saturday at Kent State
•Rob Perry scored 34 points against Western Illinois on Nov. 9, the most by a Stetson freshman since 1983. He earned ASUN Newcomer of the Week honors for his performance.
•Through games of Dec. 1, Stetson freshman Mahamadou Diawara is 21st nationally in field-goal percentage (.645). He is also 5th in offensive rebounds per game (3.44).
•Stetson has made at least one 3-point field goal in 464 consecutive games after making 4 last Saturday at Kent State.
•Stetson's last game without a trey was vs. Colorado State on Dec. 28, 2004
•Freshman Rob Perry has scored in double figures in seven of Stetson's nine games this season, including a 24-point effort last Tuesday vs. Florida College. Through games of Dec. 1, Perry leads all ASUN newcomers in scoring at 15.7 points per game.
