Hatters Win Twice at Gamecock Grand Slam

Stetson improves to 7-3 on the year

Columbia, S.C. -- The Stetson beach volleyball team collected a pair of victories Saturday, defeating UAB 4-1 and Eastern Kentucky 5-0 on the first day of the Gamecock Grand Slam at Wheeler Beach.

The 12th-ranked Hatters won 19 of 21 sets on the day and improved to 7-3 on the season.

Carly Perales and Sunniva Helland Hansen won both matches at the 1 seed by a 2-0 score. Their victory over UAB was the pair's 50th dual win and the 50th career win for Perales.

Darby Dunn and Sammee Thomas also went 2-0 at the 2 seed. Dunn recorded her 60th career victory in the match against Eastern Kentucky.

At the 3 seed, Rachel Noble and Ana Costa split their two matches, falling 2-1 to UAB before rebounding with a 2-0 win over EKU. Noble became the third player in school history to record 75 career wins.

Julie Varga and Samantha Harris twice won 2-0 at the 4 seed, as did Rebecca Ingram and Quinci Birker at the 5 seed. Ingram and Birker have now won six duals in a row.

Alexa Richardson and Yasmin Kuck won 2-0 at the 6 seed against UAB, and Richardson and Katinka Krahn won 2-0 at the 6 seed against EKU.

The Hatters will face a pair of ranked opponents on Sunday. Stetson will battle No. 18 Georgia State at 9 a.m and No. 10 South Carolina at 1 p.m.
