Hatters Split on Final Day of Surf and Turf

Thomas and Dunn Complete 6-1 Week

Miami Beach, Fla. -- The 10th-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team split a pair of duals Saturday on the final day of the FIU Surf and Turf Invitational on Miami's South Beach.

The Hatters (17-8) fell 3-2 to No. 20 TCU (12-11) before sweeping Tulane (15-12) 5-0. Stetson finished the weekend with a 1-4 mark.

On Saturday, Stetson's 1 and 2 seeds went a perfect 2-0. Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales won 22-20, 21-10 against TCU and rallied for a 18-21, 21-16, 19-17 three-set victory over Tulane.

Darby Dunn and Sammee Thomas, meanwhile, won 21-10, 21-8 against TCU and 21-13, 21-12 against Tulane. They completed the road trip with a 6-1 record and have won 12 of their last 13 matches.

Against Tulane, Rachel Noble and Ana Costa won 21-12, 21-10 at the 3 seed, Yasmin Kuck and Alexa Richardson won 21-23, 21-16, 17-15 at the 4 seed, and Rebecca Ingram and Quinci Birker won 21-12, 21-16 at the 5 seed.

It was Stetson's seventh 5-0 seep this season and the team's 53rd consecutive win against an unranked opponent.

The Hatters will return to ASUN play next weekend in Macon, Ga. Stetson will play duals against Jacksonville and UNF on Friday and Saturday.
