Rachel Noble 2019

Beach Volleyball Athletic Communications

Noble Endeavors: Rachel Noble Leading on the Court and on Campus

Rachel Noble has certainly made the most of her four years at Stetson University.  From SAAC Co-President to NASCAR intern to ASUN Champion, the Hatter beach volleyball senior has pretty much done it all.

"She has her hands in everything," head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "She is so much more than just an athlete in a Top 10 program.  She is a leader, and she is a great student.  She really has found a way to immerse herself in the community."

A Sport Business major with a minor in Statistics, Noble was recently named her department's most outstanding student with the Stetson Business Foundation Merit Award.  She maintains a 3.82 GPA and has earned numerous academic accolades including the Wendell Jarrard Award and the Melching Leadership Award.

Noble has thrived outside the classroom as well. She currently serves as Co-President of the Stetson Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), helping to coordinate several campus and community service projects throughout the year.  She is also a Stetson representative on the ASUN SAAC and manages all of the committee's social media accounts.

In addition, Noble has spent three years serving on the University Athletics Committee and is currently a Development Intern with The NASCAR Foundation in Daytona Beach.

"There are so many opportunities to do other things that impact other people, beyond just being an athlete," Hernandez said.  "I think Rachel has been able to do that and is a great ambassador for our program."

In addition to her classwork and extracurricular activities, Noble spends numerous hours practicing, strength training and competing for the 10th-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team.

With days that start as early as 5 a.m. and can often go non-stop for 16 hours, how does Noble manage such a hectic schedule?

"One day at a time," Noble said with big smile.  "I try and plan out my schedule and have a good grasp on when my assignments are due, and what days I am at work and for how long.  My calendar is my lifeline and I love it dearly, but just making sure I understand when my time starts, and when it is time to get everything else done and take advantage of any free time that I have."

Voted as the ASUN Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year last year, Noble has helped lead Stetson to three ASUN regular season titles, two postseason championships, and an appearance in the inaugural NCAA Championship in 2016.  She recorded the clinching point in last season's title match against UNF and was immediately dog-piled by her teammates.

"I think Rachel just likes to win," Hernandez said.  "She is a pretty competitive person, and I think that has been a big part of it.  She just has that motivation as a student-athlete to come out and do really well."

Noble is currently tied with former teammate Kristin Lind for the most individual dual match victories in school history with 88.  She will look for win No. 89 when the Hatters host Mercer in a double dual Wednesday at 2 p.m.

"It's never been about, 'What number can I get to?" Noble said.  "It's always been about, 'Am I contributing? Am I helping my team?' That's always been the focus.  In the back of my mind, it's kind of there, but once I step out on the court I know I just have to win for my team.

"Thinking about it now, it's pretty cool," Noble added.  "Having played with Kristen - and I love her - but I also have that competitive spirit of wanting to pass her up."

Noble has been a mainstay in the Hatters' lineup all four years and has played at the 2, 3 and 4 seeds.  One more victory will also make her the first Hatter to win 20 duals in a season four times.

"I think she has been a really consistent player for us," Hernandez said.  "She has pretty much excelled at every seed we have had her at and been a really key component for our success over the past four years."

Noble says the "great partners" she has played with have played a big role in her success.  She also credits the overall success of the team and the program.

"The schedule that coach puts us through, it's tough and we have to work for all of them, but we also have a lot of opportunity to be successful," Noble said.  "I think with the people I have played with and the communication that we've had, we have been able to take those opportunities to be successful and get the wins.  It's really cool to see all the work I have done over four years and how much it has amounted to now."

The Hatters (21-8, 6-0 ASUN) can clinch the ASUN South Division and a berth in the ASUN Championship with a win Wednesday over Mercer (7-2, 2-2 ASUN).  The teams will play at 2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. at the Cooper Beach Courts. Admission is free.
