Hatters Blanked in Series Opener at Jacksonville

Box Score Jacksonville, Fla. – The Hatters were unable to find any success on Friday night at Sessions Stadium in their series opener against Jacksonville, dropping the game 13-0.

The loss snapped Stetson's modest three-game win-streak and dropped the Hatters to 21-27 overall on the year, 9-9 in ASUN play. Jacksonville improved to 27-23 and switched places with the Hatters in the league standings, improving to 10-9 on the year.

It was a bad night from the start for Stetson starter Chris Gonzalez (7-2), who allowed a career-high 12 hits over four innings of work, surrendering seven runs, five earned.

Jacksonville plated a pair of runs on four hits in the first. Added four more runs, two earned, in a four-hit third, and then one more in the fifth after chasing Gonzalez with a pair of hits to open the inning.

JU added a run in the sixth off freshman reliever Michael Bacica, getting a pair of fisted hits just past the reach of Stetson defenders to plate a runner after a one-out walk.

The Dolphins continued to pour it on in the seventh inning, scoring five runs off junior Mitchell Senger, who faced just five batters, walking two and allowing three hits.

While the Dolphins were piling up the hits and the runs, Stetson struggled to find a solution against JU starter Tyler Santana (4-3). The junior allowed just seven hits through his 7.2 innings of work and not a single Hatter advanced past second base. Santana did not allow a walk and struck out eight.

Stetson managed just eight total hits in the game, with Kyle Ball picking up a pair. JU finished the game with a season-high 21 hits.

The teams will be back in action on Saturday night with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.
