Hatters Nab Virginia Big Man Joel Kabimba

Joel Kabimba (Kinshasa, D.R. Congo) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to continue his basketball and academic career at Stetson, men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones announced today.
 
A 6-9, 210-pound forward, Kabimba comes to Stetson from Middleburg (Va.) Academy. As a senior for the Dragons, Kabimba averaged 18.2 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. His played earned him first-team All-State honors from the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association.
 
"Joel gives us a versatile forward who can play multiple positions," Jones said. "He has a high skill level, a great work ethic and great character. We heard a lot of good things about him through the recruiting process. Once we recognized him and saw his talents, we knew he was what we were looking for in that position."
 
Kabimba was named as Middle Academy Player of the Year following his senior season. He also entered the 2018-19 season ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Virginia following the ScoutsFocus Elite 80 camp in Washington, D.C.
 
As a junior, Kabimba earned second-team all-state honors after averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds per game.
 
Kabimba is Stetson's fifth signee this spring, joining Jaret Griffith (Huron, Ohio/Akron Coventry), Terry Ivery (The Villages, Fla/The Villages Charter), Chance McSpadden (Winter Haven, Fla./UCF) and Rob Perry (Orlando, Fla./Oak Ridge HS/4A Sports Academy) as new Hatters.
