Hatters Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson beach volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year, the organization announced on Monday.

The award is presented annually to volleyball programs which maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The Hatters posted a 3.44 team GPA this past year, making Stetson one of just 41 collegiate beach volleyball programs to be honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award. The Hatters also earned AVCA Honor Roll status by having one of the top 15 team GPAs in the nation.

Stetson has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award seven times since the program debuted in 2012. The Hatters were also recently honored with the NCAA Public Recognition Award for having a perfect multiyear APR score of 1000.

The Hatters (30-10) posted their second straight 30-win season and advanced to the final six of the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history. They defeated top-ranked and No. 1 seed Southern Cal in the first round of the tournament and ranked sixth in the final AVCA Coaches poll. Stetson also won its fifth ASUN Tournament Championship.
