Hatters Announce 2019-20 Women's Basketball Schedule

DeLand, Fla. – Fifteen regular season home games plus road contests at Kentucky, Tennessee, UCF and Penn highlight the 2019-20 Stetson University women's basketball schedule, which was released on Wednesday.

The slate features eight opponents who played in the postseason last year, including five NCAA Tournament participants and six 20-game winners.  The Hatters will play a mix of six road and seven home games during non-conference action.

Women's Basketball Schedule 2019-20"I really like the balance of the schedule," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Having so many new players, I think the schedule fits the team that we have. We will see a variety of styles and opponents, which will really help us prepare for our conference season."

The Hatters will open the season at home on Nov. 5 against Palm Beach Atlantic, marking the team's earliest start date in program history.

Stetson will then embark on a four-game road trip that includes stops at two SEC opponents.  The Hatters will face the Kentucky Wildcats on Nov. 13 in the first meeting between the teams since 2005.  Kentucky went 25-8 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Stetson then travels to Morehead, Ky. for a tournament featuring Morehead State and Saint Francis (Pa.).  The road trip concludes in Knoxville where the Hatters will get a rematch with the Tennessee Lady Vols.  Stetson fell 65-55 to Tennessee last season after leading by 20 points in the third quarter.

The Hatters return home to face Trinity Baptist on Nov. 23 before traveling to UCF for a Wednesday matinee on Nov. 27.

On Dec. 3, Stetson will host Florida National for the annual Volusia County Elementary School game and its traditional 11 a.m. tip-off time.  The Hatters then head to Philadelphia to face Penn on Dec. 7.

After playing six of their first nine games on the road, the Hatters will kick off a four-game homestand on Dec. 15 against Tulsa.

Stetson will then face Canisius (Dec. 19) and MEAC Conference Champion Bethune-Cookman (Dec. 20) during the 32nd Annual Hatter Classic.  Stetson's final non-conference game will be against Holy Cross on Dec. 30.

For the second straight year, Stetson will play a 16-game double round-robin ASUN schedule beginning Jan. 4 at Kennesaw State.  Other conference road games include contests at Jacksonville (Jan. 18), North Alabama (Jan. 20), Lipscomb (Feb. 1), North Florida (Feb. 3), FGCU (Feb. 10), Liberty (Feb. 22), and NJIT (Feb. 24).

The home ASUN schedule features tilts against Lipscomb (Jan. 6), FGCU (Jan. 11), Liberty (Jan. 25), NJIT (Jan. 27), Kennesaw State (Feb. 15), North Alabama (Feb. 17), Jacksonville (Feb. 29) and North Florida (Mar. 2).

Following the regular season, the top eight teams in the league will compete for the ASUN Championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The championship format features head-to-head games at campus sites of the higher seeds.  The championship game is scheduled for March 17.

Bria begins her 12th season at the helm of the program.  The Hatters' roster features six returners and 10 newcomers.
