Hatters Fall 3-1 in Final Match of Gamecock Classic

Hatters Record a Season-High 13 Blocks

Jacksonville, Ala. -- Catherine Krieger recorded a match-high 20 kills to lead Sam Houston State to a 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-13, 25-21) victory over Stetson Saturday afternoon in the final match of the JSU Gamecock Classic.

The Hatters (2-5) complete the tournament with a 1-2 mark.

Eva Deisa posted her second straight double-double as the Hatter senior went for 17 kills, 11 digs and a pair of aces.  She served nine aces total throughout the weekend and moved into second place among the ASUN statistical leaders (0.48 aces-per-game).  She was also named to the all-tournament team.

Elena Djokovic also registered a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.  Emily DeStaffino collected 39 assists, nine digs, and four blocks.  Chelcie Spence led the back row with a season-high 18 digs.  She is now just 21 digs shy of 1000 for her career.

The Hatters had one of their better blocking games of the season, posting a season-high 13 rejections.  Brianna Schmid tied a school rally-scoring-era record with four solo blocks to go along with two block assists.  Kaylee Oscarson added a season-high five blocks, including three solos.  Overall, Stetson tied a school rally-scoring-era record with nine solo blocks.

Stetson hit a blistering .359 in the first two sets combined but just -.008 over the final two sets.  Sam Houston State finished with a .262 attack percentage.

Next weekend, the Hatters will square off against the Indiana Hoosiers and the USF Bulls at the USF Classic in Tampa.
