Hatters Drop ASUN Opener 3-1

Elena Djokovic records a season-high 17 kills

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stetson freshman Elena Djokovic recorded a career-high 17 kills, but Jacksonville rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Hatters (2-8, 0-1 ASUN) Tuesday night at Swisher Gym.

The Dolphins (4-10, 1-0 ASUN) won by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 in the conference opener for both teams.

Djokovic hit an even .500 (17-2-30) for the match and was one of three Hatters in double figures in kills.  Eva Deisa registered 13 kills and 20 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.  Riley Nieporte added 10 kills.

Emily DeStaffino also recorded a double-double of 38 assists and 11 digs.  Chelcie Spence (15 digs), Naina Ivanova (12 digs), and Alejandra Perez (10 digs) all contributed to the defensive effort.

Stetson posted 12 blocks as a team, including eight from Brianna Schmid (2S-6A), but the Hatters were unable to slow down Jacksonville's offense.  The Dolphins hit .258 for the match and had four players with 13 or more kills.

The Hatters collected a season-high 51 kills and hit .228 as a team.

After 10 matches in a row on the road to start the season, the Hatters will play their home opener Friday night against Lipscomb.  First serve at the Edmunds Center is set for 6 p.m.
