Meggie Schneider Breaks School 5K Record

Hatters Place 11th at Queen City Invite

Charlotte, N.C. -- The Stetson women's cross country team placed 11th out of 39 teams Friday evening at the Queen City Invitational.

The Hatters were given a boost by the record-setting return of Meggie Schneider. In her first race of the season, Schneider led the team and placed ninth overall with a time of 18:26. Her mark broke the previous Stetson 5K record of 18:27, which was set by Clarissa Consol in 2014.

Melanie Pacheco was next to finish for the Hatters, finishing in 42nd place with a time of 19:12.

Stetson head coach Bryan Harmon was pleased with his team's performance.

"It was finally a step in the right direction," Harmon said.  "Any time you get your No. 1 runner back, things are going to look better. The tone was set pretty early by Meggie and Mel. Nicohl followed suit, Sally ran another PR. We are getting there. We are looking at this like a second start to the season. We had a chance to restart after two weeks of not competing, and I think we are pleased with the result."

Also competing for Stetson was Nicohl Torres-Santos, who placed 68th with a time of 19:45, Sally Calhoun, who finished in 91st place with a personal-best time of 20:17, Shelbie Truett, who finished in 108th place with a time of 20:29, Alexa Roughton, who finished in 172nd place with a time of 22:01, Maricel Esquilin, who finished in 185th place with a time of 22:17, and Zoe Nicholson, who finished in 196th place with a time of 22:42.

"We have two weeks to keep it going and keep things moving in practice in the right direction," Harmon said.  "We will come out at Florida State and hopefully feel good about ourselves going into conference."

The Hatters will be back in action on Friday, October 11th when they will travel to Tallahassee to compete in the FSU Invitational.
