Hatters Drop Tournament Opener at FIU

Miami, Fla. -- The Stetson volleyball team dropped the first match of the FIU Panther Fest 3-1 to host FIU Friday afternoon at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

The Hatters (1-2) led wire-to-wire in the first set, using 12-3 run midway through the frame to pull away with a 25-16 victory.  However for the second straight match, the opponent took the next three frames, this time by scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 25-19.

Elena Djokovic led the way with 16 kills, while Emily DeStaffino posted a double-double of 28 assists and 10 digs.  Eva Deisa (14) and Chelcie Spence (12) also reached double-digit dig totals.  Kaylee Oscarson registered four blocks.

FIU (1-3) hit .215 for the match while Stetson hit .127.

The Hatters will continue play at the FIU Panther Fest on Saturday morning vs. Hofstra.  First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
