Chase Johnston Joins Hatters as Midseason Transfer

Stetson men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones announced today the addition of Chase Johnston (Boca Raton, Fla.) to the Hatters roster.

A 2019 graduate of Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Johnston spent the fall semester at Purdue Fort Wayne before arriving at Stetson. The 6-2, 185-pound guard, is a freshman.

"We're excited to add Chase Johnston to our basketball family at Stetson," Jones said. "Chase brings us a much-needed, high-level ability to shoot the basketball, as he is one of the best shooters in the country. He also adds a high basketball IQ to our roster. He's an outstanding person. He comes from an excellent basketball background, having played at one of the best programs in Florida."

Johnston, who played for former Hatter Ehren Walhoff (1991-95) at Westminster, was one of the most prolific shooters in the country over the course of his prep career. Johnston set the national record for career 3-pointers (546), and he also finished his career with 2,605 points, including a 52-point effort during his senior season.

As a senior, Johnston was named Florida Dairy Farmers' 4A state player of the year after averaging 26.8 points, six rebounds and 4.5 assists. He was a finalist for Florida's Mr. Basketball Award.

Johnston helped lead Westminster to three FHSAA 4A state titles during his prep career, including a championship in 2019. He was an All-State and all-county selection multiple times in his career, and was ranked as the No. 28 player in Florida as a senior by PrepHoops.com.
