The Stetson women's golf team had a record setting fall season and will try to continue momentum from their successes when they open the spring season on Monday at the JU Amelia Island Collegiate in Fernandina Beach.
Play begins on Monday morning at the Amelia National Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The event will include 36 holes of continuous play on Monday with a final 18 holes of competition on Tuesday.
The Hatters enter the event on a two event win streak and, as a result, enter the spring season ranked 90
th in nation according to GolfStat, which is down two spots from where Stetson ended the fall.
In addition to having the opportunity to continue their good play from the fall, the Hatters will have a chance to size up much of the competition for the ASUN title with league members North Florida (91), Florida Gulf Coast (119), host Jacksonville (161) and Lipscomb (170) also in the field.
Stetson's squad for the event includes seniors
Erikah Neger and
Justine Lauer, juniors
Sarah May and Hannah Kiefer and sophomore
Bianca Sol Cruz.
Lauer wrapped up the fall with a record setting performance in the Pat Bradley Invitational, finishing second with a program record round of 66. She had a team-leading 72.85 scoring average in the five fall events. May was not far behind with a 73.25 average.
Going into the spring, Neger has been playing some of the best golf of her career and will be the top player for Stetson in this event. Sol Cruz qualified second and Kiefer third.
The Hatters will play the first two rounds of the JU event with players from UNF and Western Kentucky (92), who are both ranked right behind the Hatters according to GolfStat.
Other teams in the field are: Bethune-Cookman (194), Cincinnati (145), FIU (101), Georgia Southern (103), Georgia State (147), Jacksonville State (148), Samford (174), Troy (99) and Winthrop (226).
